Welcome to Wood You Like's Newsletter: February 2010
Time is flying again, first month of the year already gone. And what a month it has been: snow, sleet, rain, chilling winds, temperatures below zero during the day time (a rare thing in Kent I can tell you that!) and then a few days in between of over 12 degrees, bringing a taste of Spring to the air.
Hopefully you and your family have been able to enjoy the winter weather in some way, bringing the sledge or even the skates out of their hidings and you all got some healthy rosy cheeks as reward? Did your council had enough grit to keep the traffic flowing? See our item 3 for the effect grit can have on your wood floor and how to treat it.
Since last month the "newsletter reader only" offer is ongoing and valid every time you order 2 or more maintenance products, see the link below. (Only valid when you've subscribe to our newsletter, pop-in your name and email address in the box below)
One of the many benefits wooden flooring gives you is its anti-allergic feature: bugs and house mites have nowhere to hide or lay their eggs on once you replace carpets for wooden flooring. And never any hidden dust if you are allergic for this "natural" substance.
Bedrooms are sometimes overlooked when it comes to taking preventive measurements to reduce allergy triggers - how many hours do we spent in there anyway? But we do have to sleep, according to medics at least 7 - 8 hours every night. Replacing carpets in your or your children's bedroom doesn't have to cost over the odds - but you and/or they will benefit almost straight away from having a nice and anti-allergic floor covering in there.
Have you had a look at our Ecoplank range yet? Oak wood-veneer boards with simple T&G construction for easy (self)installation in 5 natural colours. The board consists of a 1.8mm top layer and 8.5mm HDF backing: creating a simple but stable floor which has all the characters you expect from a Natural Wooden Flooring. Perfectly suited for areas with not much "traffic".
Colours available: brushed & oiled natural, brushed & oiled white, "Siberia" white washed, "Oeral" smoked & oiled natural, "Toendra" smoked & oiled white.
If you want to add your own colour oil or varnish you can opt for the unfinished product and unleash your own creativity.
You can find up to date prices per pack of 2.12 sq m and all specifications in our secure webshop, or give us a call on 01233 - 713725 now to discuss your requirements.
Reducing allergy triggers with an elegant solution has never been easier.
In our newsletters we frequently mention that wooden floors benefit from extra TLC. "Pampering" your floor by applying a maintenance product every 5 to 6 months will keep the wood protected against dirt and drips and enhance its beauty.
Special care is recommended when salt from the gritting on icy and/or snowy roads comes on your floor through wet-shoe prints. Not all entrance mats "wipe" the bottom of your shoes completely dry.
To prevent the salt effecting the wooden floor there are a few simple things you can do:
* Leave shoes on the mat (or kick off your shoes on the mat and store them in a shoe cupboard - if you have such a novel item - or area that is tiled. To prevent the tiles coming dirty or smutched, put an old newspaper on the floor first).
* Leave shoes in the porch and have slippers at the ready - warmed-up slippers is really a nice treat after a walk in the cold.
* Wipe wet-shoe prints dry the moment you notice them so the salt doesn't get a change to effect the wood.
* Make sure your wooden floor receives its extra TLC.
Another new wood range leaflet (filled with even more interior design images, Technical Specifications and much more) is added to the two we mentioned last month: "Aged flooring" - although still a "work in progress" we decided to make it available for you now.
(Basic Range and Duoplank - Solid range leaflets can be requested too, the Design Parquet range leaflet will follow shortly).
From our Ecoplank/Triplank/Duoplank manufacturer/supplier we received a brand new Triplank display with 10 large samples of this most popular Oak floor range, including a pitch black Thermoheated Oak. Come and have a look when you're in the neighbourhood.
Talking about ranges, regrettable we had to say goodbye to the Wicanders/Amorim cork range due to ongoing logistic problems with this company. The "problems" started when Amorim's UK sales and logistic department was moved back from The Netherlands to Portugal. We never like to let anyone down on promises made but never knowing which colours/designs are available or even when a delivery could be expected makes that very hard. Hence our decision, to avoid ongoing disappointment we think it is better to say no straight away than yes but perhaps, maybe, don't know when (or why).
Finally on the last leg of this exciting project, almost ready to go to the printers. The last chapter has come back from our editor (who did manage to translate some double Dutch English in regular English without losing the essence of the article, bravo) and now "all" we have to do is make sure the images that are kept in are of the highest quality.
We've been concentrating much more on the content than on the finished product, truth be told: no cover as yet and we still only have a "working title" (Installation Manual).
Would you be so kind to give your views on the titles so far suggested and tell us which one would "cover the load" best? You can read the suggestions here, please tick the one that appeals to you most and if you think you have an even better title in mind you can tell us there too. Who knows, you might see your suggestion in print!
The "find the best title" survey runs till Sunday morning 07.02.2010 - we do need to make a final decision then. After we take the survey off-line the link will end on an empty page.
ETA of the "Installation Manual" paperback edition: end of February, so stay tuned. (and everyone taking part in the book-title survey will be put into a draw to receive one genuine - signed! - copy for free.)
