Welcome to Wood You Like's Newsletter: April 2010

Welcome!

Welcome_

Last weekend the UK switched to British Summer Time - longer and lighter evenings, with a chance of a white Easter!
Well, that's April for you: almost touchable promises of warmer weather with the occasional "dip".

But enough about the weather, let's talk about the wonderful versatile world of wooden floors. April's newsletter has arrived a few days earlier in your inbox than normal, seeing as the first Monday of this month is Easter Monday.

Who else wants new authenticity?

Design Parquet flooring, be it "simple" herringbone to the most elaborate "Versailles" pattern is still one of the most admired wooden flooring you can have. Every block has its own character which is often enhanced by the way the pattern reflects the light. Darker blocks turn lighter just by looking at the floor from a different angle. Almost magic!

We personally adore this type of flooring so much we turned it into our speciality. That's partly due to the excellent relationship we have with the Design Parquet manufacturer in the eastern part of our home country. Every little piece in any pattern is cut with laser precision. And some pattern tiles contain 24 different pieces, all cut so precise you hardly have any gaps between the individual pieces disturbing the pattern.

The latest edition to the Design Parquet range is the new authenticity of T&G Oak rustic herringbone blocks or wood strips in the "Old Manor" style: edge-distressed blocks/strips in pre-finished original colour oils. Plenty of options: "natural", single smoked and double smoked, either oiled natural, white, grey, red or black.

Have a look at the large sample board we just welcomed in our showroom (double smoked and oiled natural)

New authenticity in honest PEFC sourced Oak.
If this has whet your appetite for your own unique Design Parquet floor, request the Special Range leaflet - filled with many interior design images of all patterns, wood-species and finishes available. Just pop in your name and email address in the form - or send us an email and we'll make sure you'll receive it asap.

Talking about special range leaflets - all other range leaflets have seen an increase of high resolution interior design images, helping you to select your own natural wooden floor. From Basic Oak to Bespoke!

Questions, questions, questions!

Since the launch of the FAQ & News blog (Sept 2006) we've opened the "comment box" for questions. All in all the statistics tell us the number of comments (questions and answers) have now reached the 300 mark!
The blog (dymanic and interactive website) is not the only "source" of Q&A's that gives you the opportunity to ask any wooden floor related question, daily we receive submitted questions through our "ask personal advice on wood" webform, enabling us to engage in a one-on-one conversation with you.

It happens regular the questions asked turn into a new article for the benefit of many others, the most recent are:

1. Once more: battens - too low and your floor will rattle!
2. New narrow boards on existing floorboards: nail or float?
3. Sheen and shine

Plus many of these Q&A's ended up in the (very) recently published paperback: the Wooden Floor Installation Manual - everything you need to know about DIY wooden floors

All the pre-ordered books have been dispatched two weeks ago and we had to sent them all over the UK, Ireland and even as far as the USA and Indonesia! Have you ordered yours yet?

Going with the times, Wood You Like now also has its own Facebook page, where again anyone can ask a question either on the "wall" to tell us "what's on your mind" or use the "discussion" tab. If you have a Facebook account, become a fan of us and any new published Q&A will automagically appear on your own home page.

And if you think 140 characters are enough to ask your question - tell us on Twitter!

But there is of course absolutely nothing against to simply pick up the phone (01233 - 713725) or visit our showroom and talk to us "the old fashion way".

Short round of other news:

Book news: as mentioned above, 19 March was the official launch day of our first paperback in the "Q&A's on wooden floor" series: Wooden Floor Installation Manual - 160 pages with tips, advice and tricks of the trade to install wooden floorboards like a pro (and comes with an extra online bonus). The local Post Office has taken great care to dispatch the whole stack in no time at all, the books that had to travel further afield all arrived in good order within 1 week! So, hurray for Royal Mail.

Training: due to a one day training in London our showroom is closed on Thursday 15th April. We are always keeping up to date with modern methods and techniques to serve you at the best of our abilities, and professional development days are an important part of this ongoing commitment to you.

Improved range leaflets: all our ranges are now represented in full colour, high resolution, interior design images to help you select the best, most suited to your own style, wooden floor. You can either request these leaflets through our website, or simply reply to this newsletter and tell us which of the following ranges you are most interested in: Basic floors, Duoplank & Solid floors, Aged floors or Design Parquet floors.
