Enjoying the weather we're having of late? Seems a barbecue summer is definitely on the cards.
Or were you "cooked" up inside watching the footie? (We promise we won't mention the World Cup again, but .... Hup Holland Hup!)

Enough about the weather, lets talk about the wonderful versatile world of natural wooden flooring.

When height is an issue and you're also having an Underfloor Heating system installed, the options in floorcovering for you can be very limited. Carpets are not really recommended, vinyl has its own environmental issues and the standard Wood-Engineered floors, otherwise highly suitable for UFH, come in 15mm thick boards. Wood-veneer, its 10mm thick cousin, might not be sturdy enough for your situation.

Although Solid wooden floors are normally not recommended when there is Under Floor Heating involved, there are two types of solid wood floors that are truly up for the task in hand:

* Design parquet in all it forms, from 5 or 7 finger mosaic to elaborate design patterns (glued and pinned down to a level concrete or plywood underfloor with flexible adhesive)
* Equi Classic strip flooring - the 10mm solid strip flooring with T&G (glued down to a level concrete or plywood underfloor with flexible adhesive)

You already know we specialise in Design Parquet (see item 3 for the next step in this) and we can now offer you even more when height is an issue. Plus, if there is UFH involved, also provide you with a stable solid strip floor when the style of your interior design does not agree with a parquet pattern.

The quality of the unfinished board is so high it only needs a light sanding (to remove spilled adhesive and greasy finger prints) followed by the finish of your choice. Can we suggest a natural HardWaxOil to bring out the most of the Oak's original character and warmth?

The Equi Classic Oak is available in Prime and Rustic/1-bis grade and in 70 and 85mm wide boards.

Even if height is not an issue for you, Equi Classic represents a classic solid wooden floor which compliments any design style you can think of.

Once in a while you wonder if certain encounters are written in the stars.
When way back in 2001 we worked for another wooden floor company a new colleague presented himself, and like us then still rather young. But eager to learn all the ins and outs of installing wooden floors. Circumstances beyond our control closed the doors on this company in the middle of 2003 and while we (Ton and Karin) started Wood You Like Ltd, our former colleague found employment elsewhere in the flooring trade.

Over the years we kept in touch, helped each other out on various jobs/projects and where we started to specialise in new Design Parquet floors our former colleague turned his hand more and more to restoring original parquet floors. Like us he loves wooden floors and finds it a shame they are still so often hidden underneath carpets and vinyl.

A recent discussion between the three of us about the increase of rediscovered parquet floors (our "7 Easy Steps guide" for diy-ers has been popular since its launch), the increase in requests to restore these rediscovered parquet floors in the Kent area and an ever increasing workload for the only fitter (Ton) the decision to truly join forces again was as clear as daylight on a sunny summer's day.

Reaction to last month's newsletter: within one hour after the June newsletter went out, we received a phone call from Lecol UK with the news that Lecol5500 and Lecol7500 would not (yet) be removed from the UK market, despite the "green" newsletter from the manufacturer.
Never knew a company could have different "shades of green".
We, however, no longer stock either of the two products though.

Prices: wholesalers have raised the price from various underlayments (Barrier, Barrier Plus among them) - we'll keep the old prices for the time being.
On the other hand we're more than happy to pass on the 15% reduction in price of the 7-finger Oak Nature and Rustic mosaic from our Dutch manufacturer. Adding authentic value to your home has never been so easy.

Being creative: talking about mosaic floors, one of our DIY clients has been very creative with standard herringbone blocks to cater for an awkward area - 4 finger mosaic.
